While we reduce our carbon footprint through science-based targets, we are going to compensate for all remaining emissions.

Be Kind to the Planet is a team effort to transform our business into a net-zero company having carbon free operations in our 51 offices in 16 countries, in Latin America, the United States, Europe and India.

At Globant, we are committed to the most ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement, to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and reach net-zero by 2050. Our climate strategy joins the global movement of leading companies to tackle climate change and is planned according to three simultaneous efforts: measure, reduce, compensate.

Measure our impact

Every year we measure our corporate Carbon Footprint. This is critical to understand where we are and how we can improve our performance. Measuring our carbon footprint is not an easy task. Since 2011, when we started measuring our environmental impact, we have been improving the way we measure by taking more angels into consideration and challenging ourselves to become a real Net-Zero emissions company.

Nowadays, in our estimates, we calculate that our

  • Direct Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions are mostly due to heating and backup electricity production in generators that are owned or controlled by the company.
  • Indirect GHG emissions like purchased electricity or other third-party emissions are a consequence of our activities, but occur from sources not owned or controlled by the company.

Measuring indirect GHG emissions is challenging, but in this environmental challenge we found a tech opportunity. In 2019, we launched MyFootprint, a web app that allows us to calculate the carbon footprint generated by our Globers´ commuting and working from home emissions worldwide.

Reduce carbon footprint at source emissions

Our Net-Zero Roadmap started in 2020 when we moved to 100% renewable electricity. Working on a country-by-country basis, we bought renewable energy certificates that ensured the use of renewable energy resources.

In 2021, we signed the Science Based Targets (SBT) Business Ambition for 1.5°C commitment letter, joining the Race to Zero global movement devoted to taking rigorous and immediate action.

With these targets in mind and with the collaboration of different internal teams, we are working on a global decarbonization action plan with carbon neutrality initiatives. Reducing greenhouse gas emission and our energy consumption, ensuring the provision of best renewable energy sources of electricity, and greening our commuting are only some of our ongoing initiatives to deliver a healthier and fairer zero emission carbon world.

Last but not least, compensation

This year we are achieving Carbon Neutrality. While we reduce our carbon footprint through science-based targets, we will compensate for all the remaining carbon emissions by supporting regenerative projects that promote environmental wellbeing and revert climate change.

We invite our globers worldwide to choose one of the following carbon offset projects they want to compensate their own working carbon footprint: Bajo Calima y Bahía Málaga (Colombia), Brazil Nut (Peru), Kootznoowoo (US, Alaska), GreenTech (Romania), and  Wind Power Project (India).

Achieving carbon neutrality has been a very significant milestone for Globant, but this is just the beginning. We invite you to watch this video and join us in our Race-to-Zero global effort. Together we can lead the way towards a better world for this generation and the ones to come.
