After two challenging years of isolation and uncertainty, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was an event that brought us together again. With one of the most exciting finals in history, the Men’s World Cup awakened the passion for sports, teamwork, and fair competition. With innovative digital tools, the World Cup also delivered a new fan experience beyond the stadiums to accompany fans wherever they go.
As one of the first technology sponsors for FIFA, we lived the excitement of the World Cup up close. These are the top 10 moments for Globant in the World Cup:
1. Globant became the first Argentinian sponsor in the history of FIFA
In October 2022, Globant was delighted to become a Global Platform Supporter of FIFA+; the game-changing digital destination launched earlier this year.
We were also a Regional Supporter of this year’s FIFA World Cup in North America and Europe and will be a Sponsor of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.
2. Globant on the field
What company would not want to have the honor of appearing alongside one of the most important figures of soccer worldwide? While Argentina took home the cup, Globant was also a lucky winner. Our logo accompanied critical moments of the event on the field.
3. Twitter contest on probabilities
Our logo was visible during the goal scored by Julián Álvarez in the Argentina vs. Poland match. What were the odds?
Globant’s logo was visible for 2:30 minutes per match. Martin Migoya, our Co-Founder and CEO, challenged people on Twitter to calculate the probability of this goal happening at that precise moment. The contest had tons of creative replies and one winner of a round trip to Qatar.
4. Globant Tech Trends report, World Cup Edition
The “liquid fan” concept is here to stay: an experience beyond the game that spills over stadiums, home, and wherever fans go. In this special edition of the Globant Tech Trends report, subject matter experts and FIFA legends talk about how blockchain, NFTs, smart stadiums, and other trends are changing the game, where fans are both consumers and creators. Check out the full report here!
5. Globant Fan Fest
We can’t hide our passion for football! Our Globers around the world lived the excitement of the World Cup, wearing jerseys and performing mini-competitions to find out who could kick the ball the most times in the air.
6. The World Cup Trophy experience hosted by Globant
A once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity! Globers from around the world gathered to take a photo with the Cup in Doha, Qatar.
7. Two Globers won a trip to the World Cup
How did two Globers win a trip to the World Cup? We challenged them to create a video that combined football and technology. The two videos that received the most votes on StarMeUp, our peer-to-peer recognition platform, won a trip to see their favorite soccer players!
8. #GlobantBizarrap contest
At Globant, we reward creativity and passion! We created a challenge where Globers had to change the lyrics of the song Sessions #52 by Quevedo and Bizarrap and turn it into a soccer anthem. The Glober with the most clever lyrics met Bizarrap and won a trip to see the World Cup live!
9. The Perfect Shot
We recreated the perfect shot based on artificial intelligence, biomechanical analysis, and data from the best football kickers.
Based on an analysis of the body movements of male and female soccer players and variables such as kicking stroke, back swing, and contact with the ball, we built a 3D model to reproduce the fundamental movements. Finally, we created an experience everyone can enjoy to discover in real-time how close they are to the perfect shot. How close can you get?
10. Globant + FIFA Tech Summit
Not only was Globant the first Argentinian sponsor in the history of FIFA, but we also hosted the first technology talk that happened during the World cup. FIFA leaders, Globant’s CEO and Co-Founder Martin Migoya, Globant’s Guibert Englebienne, Co-Founder and President of Globant X, and SMEs gathered to talk about the role of tech in building the new generation of fan experiences.
This World Cup is undoubtedly the beginning of innovative experiences in the world of sports. We look forward to continuing to impact the lives of fans and athletes and further redefining physical and digital boundaries.
“We are proud to start working with FIFA to accompany them in their digital transformation process and continue propelling our goal of reinventing industries. This multi-year partnership transcends any specific competition and supports this sport in all of its expressions – women, men, esports, and youth. We believe that unlimited voices bring unlimited power, and diversity is a pivotal factor for innovation.”
Martin Migoya, Co-Founder and CEO of Globant
