Globant’ s environmental commitment to take care of our home

The UN (United Nations) proclaimed the Decade of Action as a commitment for all nations to be aware of the importance of finding sustainable solutions to the world’s biggest challenges, ranging from poverty and gender inequality to climate change.

World Environment Day 2021 reminds us of the necessity for urgent action to regenerate our damaged environment. Nature is essential to human survival, but it is under an increasing amount of stress because “human activity has altered almost 75% of the earth’s surface, squeezing wildlife and nature into an ever-smaller corner of the planet.”

Climate change is affecting the entire world. It has impacted national economies that affect people’s lives, as well as weather patterns, extreme weather events, and sea levels.

“Although greenhouse gas emissions are projected to drop about 6% in 2020 due to travel bans and economic slowdowns resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, this improvement is only temporary.” The climate crisis will restart when the global economy returns to normal.

Decarbonization strategy

In our latest Sentinel Report, we discuss the importance of business leaders from all sectors recognizing and taking action to fight climate change, in part by developing a decarbonization strategy. At Globant, we are committed to sustainable development and helping organizations in their transition to a low-carbon economy.

With our Be kind to the planet initiative, we set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality and contribute to tackling the environmental crisis. To reach this goal, we need to reduce our climate impact in all our operations, including emissions generated while working from home. Energy is the dominant contributor to climate change, accounting for around 60% of total global greenhouse gas emissions.

We have invited our Globers to participate in Globant’s Energy Challenge. This initiative promotes the responsible use of energy in all aspects of daily life. We are encouraging our Globers to reduce their home energy emissions with some tips about how to be more energy efficient.

We dream of making the world a greener place one step at a time.

Enjoy these tips and switch on your positive impact with us!

There is no Planet B. We all need to commit to this cause, for this generation and the ones to come. We have always believed sustainable practices to be key in our development: we have engaged in practices for lowering energy consumption and reducing disposable waste. While we reduce our carbon footprint through science-based targets, we are going to compensate for all remaining emissions.
