Meet Leonardo Zevallos, UX Manager – Globant Medellin.

Here at Globant, our Globers represent and live our culture. Cover Stories are a space to feature recognized Globers. In this edition, meet Leonardo Zevallos, UX Manager at Globant Medellin.

– How did you learn about Globant?

I knew about Globant three years ago, they contacted me through Linkedin. I was working in a Digital Marketing Company and when I visited Globant, I said: “Wow!, This is a very important company”. I started working at Globant when there were only three designers in Medellín, now we are more than 40.

– What does a typical day look like for you?

A typical day is spent between meetings and design sessions about the assigned projects. I also participate and support any pre-sales initiatives of the Studio or help interview candidates. There are days that are heavier than others, but what is never lacking is the fun and atmosphere of friendship.

– What was the greatest teaching you learned at Globant?

Globant has taught me that diversity is our greatest strength. Globant is a multigenerational and multicultural company, a company that honours and respects differences, and that is where innovation is born and our success as a company.

– What do you love most about design?

I have always been passionate about design to serve a purpose. I started my career in the plastic arts, at a stage in my life where I questioned everything (#RebelWithoutAcause). Then I found out about design, and unlike the artistic, I understood that the design does not question, but rather, delivers answers, troubleshoots. That enchanted me. The constant search for solutions to problems that no one sees.

– What studies would you recommend to someone who wants to make their career at the Studio UX in Globant?

I don’t like the phrase: “You must study this …”. I’d rather say: “You must learn from this.” In my experience, my design knowledge has gone through understanding human psychology, administration, marketing, storytelling and even finance. Having a comprehensive view of a problem allows us to formulate more effective solutions. I recommend that apart from knowing the basic concepts of UX and visual design, acquire a general knowledge of humanities, technology, economics, etc. They will thank you.

– What stamp is missing from your passport? Why?

Ufff, thousands of stamps. I would like to see Africa. Enter the Amazon, watch a sunset in the Galapagos Islands. I mention these places because I feel a magnetism with remote places, where at some point, life originated and still thrives despite our relentless destruction.

– If you could say a single phrase to the people who are just starting their careers in technology, what would you say?

It’s a quote from Steve Jobs: “Everything around you that you call ‘life’ was made up by people who were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again”

– How do you consider the balance between your professional and personal life? Work-life balance?

Since I started my career, I have strived for my work and personal life to get along. The key has been: Work smart. Eat well. Have a good time.

– Define Globant in 3 words:

Discover. Build. Stay Relevant.

– What five things attract you most about working at Globant?

The challenges. The laughter and camaraderie of my classmates. The cultural differences. The comfort of the offices. Autonomy.
