I believe the Women That Build Awards is one of the major milestones in our efforts to fight inequality. These awards recognize women who, through their leadership, create the conditions for a more inclusive, equal, and diverse future for all. They break down stereotypes, challenge the status quo, lead the way, build and inspire, and with Women That Build Awards, we seek to give visibility to their stories and recognize them.
The challenge is huge and urgent: The gender gap is a global problem that requires a global solution, and the pandemic has worsened it. The World Economic Forum (WEF) states that a whole generation of women will have to wait for gender parity. Why? Because the sectors most affected during the pandemic are those where we find more women employed, including the technology sector. According to the WEF, there is a higher likelihood of gender gaps in sectors which require disruptive technical skills, such as Cloud Computing, engineering or artificial intelligence.
Women That Build Awards is an initiative that mobilizes and acknowledges the importance of the community of women that work in technology. Closing the gender gap in the sector is a task that should be undertaken as a network, as a community, and the award allows us to get to know (and recognize) women who, through their daily commitment, seek to have a positive impact on the planet and on people.
