Globant: Your passport to the country of your dreams

October 31, 2024

It may seem like choosing where to work and live is a dream that only happens to a friend of a friend or Tik Tok influencers. Well, today we’re going to show you that this adventure is within your reach.

We invite you to read the stories of three Globers (although there are many more) who moved to the country of their dreams. Enjoy these stories told by their protagonists! Who knows? Maybe this is the last little push you need to apply for your visa.

“The first time I heard of Abu Dhabi was on Sex and the City”

I’m Marisol Fonseca and I’ve been working at Globant for 5 years. I’m currently Business Hacker Director. A random fact about me is that I’ve been an angelotherapist since 2013 and I’m on a mission to humanize technology.

As part of my professional development, I wanted the opportunity to live and work outside of Mexico and expand my horizons. I never imagined that this opportunity would arise 9,000 miles away.

In May 2023, I got an offer to work on a project in Abu Dhabi. The first time I heard of it was in the movie “Sex and the City”. It didn’t know anything about the country!

But I wanted to expand my horizons…

So, in January 2024, I packed my life in four suitcases and boarded a plane that would change my life. Physically I was traveling alone, but in my heart, I carried my parents, my brother, my friends and my dogs. The moment I arrived in the United Arab Emirates, a new chapter of my life began to unfold.

When this opportunity came along, I knew that the dream I’d worked so long for was coming true. I loved Abu Dhabi from day one. Six months later, I had already chosen it as the place to build my home.

The project was for the local Department of Culture and Tourism and focused on the implementation of a Customer 360° strategy. I was struck by how this country has integrated foresight and digitalization as core elements of its development strategies.

I reconciled my professional world with my personal world

From the first time I experienced the Arab culture, I admired the spirituality with which they live their daily lives. I reconciled my two worlds—which I’d kept separate for so long—and now my professional life is part of my spiritual life.

Abu Dhabi is the most multicultural city I’ve ever known: you enjoy freedom and respect to live and let live.

Much more than an opportunity

Globant has given me two things that I deeply value. The first is that it broadened my horizons: the opportunity to work in the Middle East changed my perspective of the world. The second is that it has allowed me to meet people who have supported me in times of crisis and that today I consider great friends.

Relocating is a great opportunity to reset your life. It’s a leap of faith in yourself, trusting that you can solve whatever comes your way. I’ve learned that everything is always a decision away

“Living in Europe was a life project that my whole family wanted”

I’m Jorge Recalde and I’ve been working at Globant for five years. I joined a few weeks before the pandemic. My initial position was as VP of Delivery, a role that later became Tech Partner, which is my current position.

I was born in Paraná, Entre Ríos, Argentina, in 1973. I lived there until I was 18 years old when I finished high school and went to La Plata to study. Before that, I’d never traveled outside my city and I’d never been outside Argentina.

When I joined Globant, what interested me most was the possibility of working with talented people and innovative technologies. I had no idea that this job would take me so far—quite literally.

New opportunities outweighed fears

Living in Europe has always been a dream and a life project for my family. We had EU passports, and my children had studied in an Italian school, but we lacked a plan.

One day, the opportunity to collaborate with Globant’s talent strategy in Europe presented itself. In January 2022, I came to live in Cluj Napoca, Romania, with my entire family: my wife, my two children, and even the dog.

Romania is a country with a great Latin cultural heritage that has beautiful natural sites such as Transylvania. Here I learned what it’s like to live with cultural diversity: people speak different languages and a great variety of communities with multiple religions and traditions coexist.

My wife is active in an international women’s club in Europe, so we share a lot of time with people not only from Romania, but from other countries from all continents. I find it amazing when I listen to the children playing together and switching languages depending on who’s in the group, from English, to Romanian, French or Spanish.

The road is made by walking

The possibility of relocating to another country is a transformative experience that allows us to grow personally and professionally. By entering a new culture, we expand our horizons, learn new languages, get to know new places, establish new social ties and acquire an open and adaptable mentality. If we have the support of an organization like Globant, this opportunity becomes even more valuable.

Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on an adventure that can change your lives forever.

“It all started with the question: ‘Would you move to Saudi Arabia?'”

I’m Fernando Cea, I’ve been working at Globant for 14 years, and I was born in Bariloche. I currently work as VP of Tech for the New Markets region. I’m already on my third country move with Globant!

I always liked learning new things—I get bored quickly—I wanted to find something that would entertain me and allow me to see new places and different cultures.

It all started when someone asked me if I would move to Saudi Arabia. The little I knew about that place was that they were generating some very interesting things with technology and that it wasn’t all deserted. Dubai and Qatar were directly associated with the World Cup. When I got there, I found incredible things. Middle East blew my mind! Culturally, it’s the region with the most languages, religions and histories in the world.

The project I work on is focused on developing initiatives with technology to create the Smart Cities of the future. My role is to oversee team operations to ensure that the project is a success and exceeds expectations. I never really imagined any of this, living in Saudi, traveling to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia. It was a dream to visit these countries and meet customers and Globers from around the world.

There’s a fun fact about mate 🧉. In Syria and Lebanon, people drink mate like in Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. There’s a former Argentine president who is responsible for this new custom!

Change your career, change your life

I appreciate Globant’s work culture. Here we need help of all kinds every day. We are putting things together from scratch and there is always support. Globant’s a place where we are all reassured that someone will always help you out or connect you with someone who has an idea.

You must be prepared to face the unknown. These are experiences that stay with you forever. They change your career, but also your life. Some places have hidden treasures that you don’t see until you are there.

At Globant, we believe that everyone can reach their full potential in the technology industry. That’s why we focus on providing opportunities so that they can not only fulfill their professional goals but also their personal desires. We believe that both aspects of life cannot be separated, and that’s why we support our Globers to pursue their dreams, with concrete policies and actions.
